Salute the treble-busters!!..a magnificent Manchester United who beat all-conquering Everton with 10 men.
Everton are cracking champions in the League and handsome winners in Europe, but there was no stopping the FA Cup kings at Wembley on Saturday.
For a long time it wasn't the final classic we all predicted, more a stalemate between two top teams probing for weaknesses which didn't exist.
It was a mental battle and test of concentration, just as much as a searing physical confrontation and fascinating exercise of sophisticated skills.The United 1-0 victory in extra time will be remembered for the sending off of Kevin Moran and how the injustice seemed to spark the Reds to triumph.
Certainly the sense of outrage engendered by referee Peter Willis' excessive decision inspired United's new heights of endeavour that made them undeniably worthy victors.
But in my view United had already turned the corner.
